Gustav Ferdinand Schreck was a German composer, conductor, and music educator. He was born on September 9, 1849, in Trumpfheller near Remscheid, and died on September 10, 1918, in Frankfurt am Main. Schreck studied at the Cologne Conservatory and later taught at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt. He became the conductor of the Frankfurt Museum Symphony Orchestra in 1890 and held this position until 1913. He was also the founder of the Singakademie at Frankfurt am Main, where he served as the director from 1894 until his death in 1918. Schreck's most well-known works include his cantatas, symphonies, and organ music, which were influenced by the compositions of Bach and other Baroque composers. He was also a music theorist and the author of several academic publications on music history and theory.
